Hungry Ghost Month

The Seventh lunar month in the traditional Chinese calendar is called Ghost Month. It is believed that on the first day of the Ghost Month, the king of hell opens the gate of hell to allow spirits to roam around the world and take victims along with them as they go back in hell at the end of the Ghost Month.

During this month, there will be an increase in paranormal or ghost manifestations, increase in number of accidents, increase in the number of crimes, increase number of hospital deaths and unexplained medical problems from medical procedures, and an increase in business failures.

It is highly recommended that during the whole month, people shouldn’t sign any contract, move to a new house or get operated. People should also avoid evening strolls, travelling and swimming. On the exact Hungry Ghost Feast (15th day of the Ghost Month), people should offer extravagant feast to please the spirits and to bring luck to their family.

The Incense Offering Ritual should also be made every night during the entire Ghost Month to avoid harms caused by the spirits. People  should light up sweet-scented incense and chant the special mantra while walking clockwise around rooms and outside the house: NAMAH SARVA TATHAGATHA AVALOKITE  OM SAMBHARA SAMBHARA HUNG.

People should surround themselves with protective  energies like the Umbrella Goddess (Ushnisha Sitatapatra) to avoid harms as well as black magic. The Knight Safety amulet with the powerful image of Lord Chung Kwai (a famous Chinese Ghost Catcher) should also be worn for protection. The Bhrum pendant that comes with the Heart of Sutra, Increasing Jewel Mantra and Four Dharmakaya Relic mantras that protect people from untimely death. People should also wear the Dharmachakra Wheel scarf for protection against accidents and dangers, and the Namgyalma scarf that brings protection to those who are travelling.
